Monte Amiata: an unexplored land

amiataThe tour starts from Arezzo and lasts about 8 hours.

Would you like to see the most unexplored corners of Tuscany? The Amiata region is your chance.

We will guide you there crossing the enchanting Val d’Orcia and its rolling hills. This winding road will offer you many breathtaking views and many occasions to see the wide plain of Maremma.
We will reach Arcidosso, a typical medieval hamlet built on the side of the mountain and walk among the rocks of Monte Labro. This is an incredible place, a landscape different from what we usually imagine when thinking about Tuscany. Here Davide Lazzeretti, considered the Amiata Christ, mustered his supporters to give life to a particular christian community. Not by chance, because you will find it a mystic and isolated place, from which you will admire a dream landscape.
We will visit Seggiano that hosts the Garden of Daniel Spoerri, an eclectic contemporary artist who has chosen Amiata to realize his most ambitious project. Among thousand-year olive trees you will find his works perfectly merging with nature. This exposition fascinates visitors from all over the world.
Finally you will sample the age-old culinary traditions of Amiata, tasting Scottiglia (a very typical dish made with bread and meat) and Polenta with Porcini mushrooms. You will be astonished by the Montecucco, one of the newest tuscan wines and a rival to its famous brothers.
